Australian brewers have a long history of supporting independent research in the field of alcohol and health.
Long Term Contributors to Independent ResearchBetween 1978 and 2005, Australian brewers administered a research grants program. In the last 20 years of the program alone, Australian brewers funded over 120 grants to researchers. Grants were allocated at arms length by a committee of Medical Advisors who were all eminent in their own fields.
Encouraging Information on Alcohol and HealthIn both Australia and New Zealand, brewers have a long history of supporting Medical Advisors to keep members informed of major developments in the field.
The current honorary Medial Advisor to the Brewers Association is Professor Ross McCormick, who is based at Auckland University.
In turn, Medical Advisors from around the globe meet annually to hear reports of new research in the field at the International Medical Advisory Group (IMAG) conferences.
Australian and New Zealand brewers were pleased to host IMAG04 in Canberra, Australia.
